Ron Gilbert, DVM
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Gilbert moved to Covington when he was 10 years old. He graduated from Covington High School and went on to attend Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He acquired a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology and then his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. Dr. Gilbert practiced for one year and then purchased Dr. Joe Austin’s portion of Companion Animal Hospital. He and Dr Gillane owned the practice together until 2012.
Dr. Gilbert enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, and he has a special interest in orthopedics and dentistry. He is a member of the Florida Parish Veterinary Medical Association, the American Veterinary Medical Association, and he has served in an advisory role to the Hammond Humane Society.
Dr. Gilbert and his wife, Melinda, have raised two sons, Christopher and Kevin. They have also parented multiple cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, etc.. Dr. Gilbert has been active in the community, including serving as an assistant scoutmaster, a long-time member of the Hammond Rotary Club, serving as President from 1989-1990. He also has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as both Moderator of the Board of Deacons and three terms as Clerk of Session. In his semi-retirement, Dr. Gilbert enjoys gardening, golf, travel and playing with his grandchildren. (Though not necessarily in that order!)
